What’s It Made From…
The Zinus Memory Foam Green Tea mattress has four separate layers of high-quality foam materials. The four layers from top to bottom are memory foam, comfort foam, air flow high-density support foam, and airflow high-density base support foam. Each of these four layers is discussed in depth below. Green tea extract has been scientifically proven as an anti-oxide cleaning of the air around the mattress, and it has also been proven as an antifungal-repelling fungus from within the mattress. The infusion of the green tea extract into the mattress will keep it fresher and healthier for a longer period of time. Additionally, the materials used to manufacture this sleep system are CertiPUR-US certified. This certification ensures that no harmful chemicals are used in their production and that they have a low VOC level.
The First Layer
The top of this mattress is the layer that conforms to each individual body. It is made of 3 inches of memory foam. This material allows the product to contour to the individual shape of each body and and creates a feeling of a hug for the whole body. The soft, cushioning effect of this memory foam minimizes motion transfer adding to the overall comfort of the mattress.
The Second Layer
The second layer is 2 inches of comfort foam. Comfort foam enhances the experience of the mattress because of its distributive properties. It is highly responsive and evenly spreads weight throughout providing relief of pressure points that traditional innerspring mattresses actually creates.
The Third Layer
The 3.5-inch third layer is air-flow high-density foam. This layer pulls heat away from the body and circulates it out of the mattress. Other memory foam mattresses without this layer retain the body heat within the mattress, but the inclusion of the airflow high-density foam helps to create a sleeping surface that has a consistently regulated temperature.
The Fourth Layer
The final layer is 3.5 inches of air-flow high-density base support foam. This mattress has two layers, 7 inches combined, utilizing the air flow technology. Zenus uses this technology to keep the mattress cool as it pulls heat away from the body and disperses it out of the mattress. Temperature regulation has been an issue for many memory foam mattress manufacturers and this product offers a common sense, superior airflow approach. This fourth layer also offers point elasticity which keeps the body properly aligned throughout the night. This layer is where the reduction of aches and pains lies.
The cover of this mattress adds softness to this mattress and wraps all four layers of foam into with a cover that is made from knitted jacquard. This material is highly breathable, again, aiding in keeping you cool through the night by further minimizing heat retention.
The cover wraps the entire mattress in one white, continuous piece. It has small, basic details imprinted into it giving a modern and minimalist look.
The central advantage of purchasing a mattress that ships directly from the manufacturer are the reduced overall cost. Overhead costs generally increase the cost of all products. When you receive your product manufacturer direct, the overhead costs are significantly lower and the manufacturer can pass the savings to the consumer. High-pressure sales tactics are virtually eliminated and so is commission. The downside to this is that the opportunity to test the mattress out first is removed completely. Precisely, this is why we created this useful buyer’s guide.
We do our best in this section to share our findings of the most important criteria that influence the overall quality of all mattresses, specifically though, the Zinus Memory Foam Green Tea 12-inch mattress. The categories we assessed are:
- Pain Relief & Support
- Heat Retention
Firmness is really a subjective matter of opinion. Relative to other mattresses though we were able to rate the Zinus Memory Foam Green Tea mattress on a firmness scale of 1 to 10. With 1 being the softest and 10 being the firmest, we would be remiss if we gave it a rating any higher than a 6. We found it to be middle of the road but just slightly on the firmer side. The average person will probably find the firmness to be just right; however, people who weigh less might find that it is too firm, and heavier people may find this mattress too soft. This is because of the weight distributive effect of the layers. Heavier people will access more of the second layer than will lighter people.
This mattress was able to provide an impressive level of comfort. True to the classic innate qualities of memory foam, the layers did conform to the body as expected and offered a hugging effect. However, it did not conform so much that it engulfed the body. This offers a perfect balance between motion minimizing and comfortable contouring. The memory foam immediately started to conform to the body to disperse weight effectively. It was highly responsive, and the lower layers of the mattress provided great support and a surprising degree of bounce.
The transfer of motion was not present at all while moving in the bed or when objects were dropped on the Zinus Memory Foam Green Tea mattress. In fact, we did not notice any motion at all! Minimal motion transfer is a huge advantage to memory foam sleepers, it really adds to the overall comfort that memory foam provides.
Pain Relief and Support
Because memory foam contours to every individual body, this mattress excelled in pain relief and support. The unique quality of this particular memory foam sleep system is that it actually offers just enough bounce back to address complaints of difficulty moving around in the bed and getting in and out of bed. With the even distribution of body weight throughout the foam layers, the spine is always kept in proper alignment. When your spine maintains alignment pressure point build-up is reduced along with the pain associated with it.
Zenus utilizes the airflow technology in the bottom two layers of this mattress and it addresses a common problem of heat retention with memory foam mattresses. This airflow technology pulls away body heat and circulates it out of the mattress instead of trapping it inside compounding body heat and fungus issues. The jacquard cover is breathable further supporting the mattress’ ability to disperse body heat. Overall, the Memory Foam Green Tea mattress from Zinus stayed cool and comfortable throughout the night in all sleep positions.
Off-gassing is a term used to refer to the chemical odor that a new mattress sometimes emits. Foam mattresses have been notorious for emitting a chemical smell that takes time to fully erode. Quite often, harsh chemicals are used in the production of the foam, and those chemicals are generally detected via an unappealing odor.
The Zinus Memory Foam Green Tea mattress is not made with any harsh chemicals. We can confirm that there was absolutely no off-gassing in the mattresses we tested. When the packaging was removed it takes its shape and is ready to start using right away without that unpleasant off-gassing, chemical odor.
Mattresses that have a good amount of spring and bounce back – innerspring mattresses – are typically regarded as the best option for intimacy. One common complaint about memory foam mattress owners is that foam absorbs motion eliminating virtually all spring and bounce back. However, the Zinus Memory Foam Green Tea mattress actually offers just enough spring to give it some bounce. You’ll still have to exert more energy than you would with your old innerspring mattress when it comes to intimate activities, but you won’t have to exert as much as you would on a typical foam mattress.
Sleep Position Ratings
The Memory Foam Green Tea mattress from Zinus by design offers the same comfort and support for all sleeping positions. Read below for our findings on all sleeping positions…
Back sleepers report that this mattress is comfortable and supportive. There is no pressure point build-up and it distributes weight evenly. If you are on the heavier side you’ll be accessing more of the second layer than your thinner counterparts and you may find that it is too soft for sleeping on the back.
Back Sleeping Score: 9.25/10
Stomach sleepers should thoroughly enjoy sleeping on this mattress. The spine is kept in proper alignment throughout the night which means that sore back, neck, and shoulders from your traditional innerspring mattress are virtually eliminated. The distribution of weight also creates just the right amount of contouring and cushioning to make you feel cradled, not engulfed.
Stomach Sleeping Score: 9/10
Side sleepers will find this bed to be supportive and comfortable. Side sleepers need a lot of extra support because their body weight is placed in one concentrated area around the hips and shoulders. For side sleepers, an even distribution of weight means healthier alignment and support for the spine and maximum relief from uncomfortable pressure points.
Side Sleeping Score: 9.25/10
